2023 Youth Lacrosse Registration FAQs

PABA will once again be offering a youth lacrosse program this summer for students currently in grades 1 - 12. Here are the details:

Q: When is registration?
A: Registration begins online February 8, 2023.
You must register online through this website.

Q: When does the season start?
A: Practices are currently planned to begin in late April to early May (depending on weather and field conditions), with games starting in the month of June. Games are currently being scheduled by our league, the Western New York Summer Lacrosse League (WNYSLL), and we should have more information on exact dates in the near future.

Q: Why is registration held so early?
A: We hold registration so we can promote our lacrosse programs through the schools. It also gives us an opportunity to order the equipment, uniforms and supplies we need before practices begin.

Q: Where do you hold your practices?
A: All practices are held at Starpoint Central School at the fields East of Fricano Primary School.

Q: When are practices held?
A: In an effort to avoid conflicting with our NFL Flag Football program, practices will most likely be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from approximately 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  With that said, our coaches are free to schedule any additional practices as the team requires.  Our program coordinators are actively working on scheduling practices and games so that athletes could potentially participate in both programs, if they choose.

Q: Where do you play your games?
A: Home games will be played on the same fields we practice on at Starpoint, while away games are played against other WNYSLL teams through Niagara County and northern Erie County. Click here for a list of WNYSLL teams.

Q: When are games played?
A: All games are played on the same days and times as the practices. For example, once the game schedule begins, either our Tuesday or Thursday regular practice will be replaced by a game.

Q: How much does it cost to participate?
A:  Due to our highly successful fundraising efforts, basic registration is only $50 this year for those who still have a PABA game uniform that fits from the 2021 season.  For those that are new to the program or whose player has outgrown last year's uniform, there is an additional $50 charge for the purchase of a new game uniform.   The basic fee includes insurance and covers field maintenance and fees charged by the league and referees.

Q: What will I have to buy?
A: The league requires each player to wear gloves, an NOCSEA regulation lacrosse helmet, arm pads, shoulder pads, and a mouth guard. While not required, a protective cup is recommended for all players. Each player will need a lacrosse stick, and you’ll also probably want to purchase some lacrosse balls to practice at home.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The rules regarding required protective equipment have significantly changed in the last 2 years. Shoulder pads/chest protector are now required to be NOCSAE ND200 compliant. These new shoulder pads have a hardened chests plate designed to better protect the sternum/heart are of the players. This means that most of the shoulder pads our players have used in past seasons (more than 1 year old) no longer meet the current safety requirements and most families will need to buy a new NOCSAE ND200 compliant pair of shoulder pads.

If you child wants to play goalie, PABA will provide a throat guard, chest protector and goalie stick that will be shared by all players who play the position

Here are some vendors where you can buy all the personal equipment you need in a single package:

  • Dick's Sporting Goods
  • Lax.com
  • Lacrosse Unlimited
  • Lacrosse Monkey
  •
Q: Does my child have to be a Starpoint student to participate in PABA lacrosse?
A: All are welcome! Your child is NOT required to be a Starpoint student to participate in this PABA program.
